Where does the cruise start?

An Alleppey houseboat day cruise starts at the boarding point assigned to your actual houseboat and package. Finishing Point and Pallathuruthy are names you may encounter, but the location in your booking confirmation is what your driver needs.

Ask for an exact map pin, reporting time and contact person before travelling. “Alleppey boat jetty” is not a complete set of arrival instructions.

Why there is more than one boarding point

A booking in Alleppey is not interchangeable with a Kumarakom departure. If your accommodation is in the other base, compare Alleppey and Kumarakom boarding-base choices before committing to the transfer.

A public ferry station name is not a substitute for your assigned houseboat map pin. Our public ferry and booked-cruise comparison explains why the service and arrival arrangements need to be identified separately.

Different operators use different boarding arrangements. Sanchari’s published houseboat day-tour page, for example, lists Finishing Point or Pallathuruthy Jetty and says the exact location is shared after confirmation. Kerala Sharing Houseboats identifies its own boarding point near Pallathuruthy Bridge.

Those are examples from the operators’ own pages. They show why you should confirm the location for your booking; they do not establish where a cruise booked through this website will board.

A photograph of a boat, a general address, or a review describing someone else’s departure should not replace the instructions for your assigned vessel. An operator’s office, the car parking area and the place where you step aboard may also be different locations.

Ask for these six arrival details

  1. The exact boarding map pin. Ask whether it points to the boat, a meeting area or parking.
  2. The reporting time. This is when your group should arrive, which may be earlier than departure.
  3. The boat name and contact person. Know who will receive you and how to reach them that morning.
  4. The final approach. Ask how far you walk from the car and whether there are steps or a gangway.
  5. Parking arrangements. Confirm whether parking is available, where it is, and whether a charge applies.
  6. The return point. Confirm where your driver should collect you and whether it is the same as boarding.

Save the instructions and share them with everyone travelling separately. If the assigned boat or jetty changes, ask for updated directions before setting out.

Two clocks: reporting and departure

“The cruise starts at 11” does not necessarily mean arriving at 11 is suitable. The operator may need time to meet you, confirm your booking and help everyone aboard. Check the cruise schedule and reporting time separately.

Shared departures can include other guests. Review the difference between private and shared cruises when comparing arrival arrangements. Ask how a late arrival affects that departure, whether you lose cruising time, and whom to contact if your transfer is delayed. A private booking also needs an agreed arrival plan.

For your return, add the time needed to leave the boat and reach your car. The boat’s scheduled finish is only one part of an onward train, flight or road-transfer plan.

If you are coming by taxi, train or bus

By taxi: send the map pin and reporting time to your driver in advance. Ask the operator where the car can stop and where a driver waiting for the return should park.

By train or bus: include the local transfer from your arrival point to the jetty. Confirm the actual jetty before arranging that transfer; arriving in Alappuzha town does not mean you are already at your boat.

From Kochi: work backwards from the required jetty arrival time using your driver’s journey estimate and a delay allowance. Keep both transfers in the Kochi-to-Alleppey day plan, including the return pickup.

When boarding access matters

If someone cannot comfortably walk far or step up onto a boat, ask for current photos or a short video of the complete boarding approach. Include the walk from the car, the jetty and the crossing onto the boat.

For help planning a cruise with older parents, describe the practical requirement clearly: step-free access, a short walk, handholds, or space for a mobility aid. The size or category of a houseboat does not by itself confirm that a particular jetty and boat meet those needs.

A message you can send before the trip

“Please send the exact boarding map pin, our reporting and return times, the boat name, the contact person for arrival, and parking instructions. Please also confirm where our driver should collect us afterwards.”

Add any access needs and your onward travel deadline. Get these details for the available boat before finalizing your transport.

If children are joining, use the boarding questions for families with children to plan the approach to the boat.

Bringing suitcases after checkout? Use the day-cruise luggage and packing advice to agree storage before arriving at the jetty.
