A per-person rate is useful for comparison, but the group total is what matters when you book. Shared houseboats, private boats and shikara rides can use different pricing rules. If you are also considering a passenger ticket, compare ferry fares and complete cruise costs on the same basis.
Check the rate for each adult, the child policy and whether lunch and any other mandatory charges are included. For vegetarian diners, confirm meal replacements and any extra food charges in the quote. Shared seats must be available on your chosen departure.
Comparing durations? Our houseboat pricing guide for 1–6 hours separates short-trip offers from calculated hourly equivalents.
Ask whether the quote is per person or for the whole boat, whether a minimum charge applies, and which rooms or decks your group can use. A private-boat price should be clear about who and what it covers.
Compare private boat hire with shared day-cruise seats before deciding which quote suits your group.
The booking panel shows the full boat price for your group. The 11 AM–4 PM day cruise uses five hours; custom rides use the hours you select. Food is outside the displayed boat price until meal options are finalized. Use the shikara booking checklist to confirm the complete offer before paying.
For family enquiries, confirm child ages and the complete family quote before comparing totals.
For a houseboat outing with time on land, include the shore-visit arrangements and extras in the quote rather than assuming lunch aboard includes a village walk.
For a houseboat advertised as approved, check which approval covers the actual vessel separately from the quoted package inclusions.
Your final confirmation should state the date, guest count, assigned boat, inclusions, exclusions, total and cancellation terms before any payment.
When comparing boats in different places, include transport in the total; see how to compare Alleppey and Kumarakom day-cruise packages. For a day trip from Kochi, include both transfers in your budget. Our guide to transport planning for a cruise from Kochi explains what to check separately from the boat quote.
Private and shared houseboats run on different schedules. The shikara day cruise runs 11 AM–4 PM; shorter hourly rides can be customized.
A typical private day cruise boards at 11, has a Kerala lunch stop around midday, cruises in the afternoon and returns by 5. Welcome drink and tea/snacks are commonly included; confirm your boat.
A shorter shared cruise with lunch on board. Exact departure, return, route and facilities depend on available seats and boat.
Five hours on the backwaters. The route and any stops are confirmed with your boat; food is outside the displayed boat price.
Choose at least 3 hours. Your custom ride must end by 7 PM; route and inclusions are confirmed for that ride.
